Learning From Media

With this being a media class we have spent a great deal of time discussing what we believe media to be and how it operates. For a general consensus we can assume that media is a connection of information made available to us by an external force, this can include everything from novels to film, and Facebook to these blog posts. The significance of this information varies greatly in each mind that witnesses it for we all tend to take different meanings from what we see due to own own unique experiences.
However I think we can all agree that as a whole we learn a great deal through media, after all our education and parents are entirely unable to have taught us all that me know. I believe that media is a great resource for individuals to learn that valuable information left out of our schools’ lesson plans. In reading novels, and watching films we are able to relate to fictional characters and witness how they handle themselves in situations we have experienced and situations we may face in the future. We are then able to prevent undesirable outcomes from happening thanks to learning such lessons saving us the misfortune of experiencing regret of our actions.
While it’s obvious we cannot avoid all of the mistakes we will inevitably come to experience, I believe that the more we choose to pay attention to the media in which we are confronted with on a daily basis and the more lessons and inspiration we take the better off we will be. We are lucky to have such information so readily available to us thanks to this unbelievable new found potential of the Internet, in the past our parents and ancestors were forced to live and learn, to make mistakes and learn to never make them again.
